Find accessible places to go
POSTED ON 7TH FEBRUARY 2018
Through our regular Lifetime Spending Plan discussions with wheelchair users we have learned that getting out and about, be it for everyday travel or for holidays, can present quite specific difficulties.
Sourcing information on the accessibility of public places such as restaurants, cinemas, hospitals, railway stations, etc. isn’t always straightforward given that “a venue which self-reports its access can all too often miss, overlook or fail to appreciate the reality of the access they provide.”
The website DisabledGo provides an “accessible places to go…” search facility and their database currently holds information on over 125,000 places of interest across the UK and Northern Ireland. Their accessibility reports for each place provide lots of detail and usually include photos. Every venue on the site has been visited and surveyed in person and their survey method has been informed by over 800 groups of disabled people.
