Tom Murray

Philanthropy

To really understand transformational philanthropy at work I visit projects that are making a difference. From a school in a Refugee Camp on the Syrian Border, to post-natal classes in The Democratic Republic of Congo, a workshop in Glasgow helping people re-engage with society, to a centre supporting children who have lost parents through violence. I never cease to be amazed by the extraordinary commitment of people who are determined to make a change and the way clearly targeted interventions can make huge improvements in day-to-day lives.

Tom is a highly regarded charity law specialist, chairman of Mercy Corps, Scotland’s largest international aid charity, and protector of the Big Lottery JESSICA (Scotland) Trust. He is co-author of ‘A Practical Guide to Charity Law’ and believes wholeheartedly in the transformational power of philanthropy. His mission is to maximise the impact of philanthropic giving and since 2016 he has been Wealthflow’s external specialist adviser in philanthropy.
