Budget likely to be 24 March

Budget 2010

Synopsis: Report by The Times suggests Budget could be 24 March

The 2010 Spring Budget has been ´heavily pencilled in´ for 24 March, according to a report in The Times of 8 February. That would allow several days of Budget-related debates in the House of Commons before the dissolution of Parliament and the start of the election campaign proper. The date of the General Election is now widely believed to be 6 May.

There would need to be a short Finance Bill, as there has been in similar situations in previous years. Its purpose would be to implement the essential aspects of the Budget, notably the key tax rates and allowances.
